A few years back when I was trying to figure out if I was “a writer” or not, I attended a workshop on the craft. One tidbit has never left me:
“Your reader is only 18 inches away from your words. Write in a personal way!”
I still try to do that.
It was a God thing that I was blessed to publish two books while far away in Kenya. I sent an unsolicited manuscript to an agent (I didn’t know any better) and was thrilled when they said they really liked it. My calling to write was affirmed with the publication of Imagine Meeting Him, and Safe In His Sanctuary, by Multnomah Publishers.
Due to moves and trials, I have been away from publishing for quite awhile. But I am coming back to this love, and hope that you will join me.
One reader named Ruth gave me the kind of compliment I cherish: “I think the main thing is that your writings make me think more deeply about my relationship with Christ on a practical level, and to stretch my understanding of what it means to walk the walk.”
I live in California now, and can be found gardening, hiking, or watercolor painting on my days off. On work days I am a missionary, which I also love. I would be thrilled to hear from you if you have feedback or suggestions.
